Sony Vaio Laptop

I recently ran into a power issue with a Sony Vaio Laptop Model# VGN-FS640/W or PCG-7A2L. It suddenly shutoff one day and would not power on. No lights showed up on the laptop. First tried removing the battery and plugging in the power adapter. Still nothing. Contacted Sony support, but they were not much help seeing as the laptop was a few months out of warranty. So I started taking it apart. I removed devices, hard drive, cdrom, memory, and wireless card. Still nothing. Remove all the screws on the bottom of the laptop. Took off the bottom cover. I started digging deeper and removed the cpu, and motherboard. Noticed there was a battery attached to the motherboard, so I disconnected it and plugged in the power adapter and got lights to show up. Reconnected the Time Clock battery ans reassembled the components and reconnected the power adapter. The screen turned on and showed the Sony boot screen. So in conclusion, All that was needed to be done was the reset the motherboard by disconnecting the time clock battery connected to the motherboard. Not sure why this was the case, but it worked. Big reward was the almost $300 dollars saved by not sending it to Sony. Hope this helps some one else as i could not find anything on the Internet about it.
